REVIEW: [TONY MOLY] Tako Pore Sebum Control Gel Cream

¡Hola a tod@s! Espero que se encuentren muy bien, nosotros estamos pasando por agua y frío por este cambio de clima tan constante (y eso que se supone que es Verano, #faillogic). ¿Alguien más se considera fan de los empaques lindos? Ese es mi don y mi maldición (*inserte meme de Peter Parker aquí*). Y es que conozco a muchísimas personas que, gracias a los empaques adorables, conocieron la cosmética coreana (mi perdición fue la Tomatox, la odié muchísimo pero debo agradecerle mi amor por el K-beauty ahora ♥). Cuando compro cosméticos con empaques lindos, a veces tengo suerte y funcionan super bien, y algunas otras me llevo un chasco enorme. La reseña de hoy es sobre un producto que compré porque me enamoró su empaque (yo soy gran fan de los pulpos) y por la promesa de ser controladora de sebo e hidratante. ¿Habrá cumplido su función además de ser bonita?

Is anyone else considered a cute packaging-holic? That's my gift, my curse (*insert Peter Parker's meme here*). And I know a lot of people who, thanks to the adorable packaging, met Korean cosmetics (my downfall was Tomatox, I hated it a lot but I must thank it my love for K-beauty now ♥). When I buy cosmetics with cute packaging, sometimes I'm lucky enough and they work super well, and others are just a huge disappointment. Today's review is about a product I bought because I fell in love with its packaging (I'm a big fan of octopuses) and for the promise of being a sebum controller and hydrating. Will it have fulfilled its function besides being cute?

El empaque es demasiado adorable. Incluso la cajita que contiene el envase es una monada. La caja está hecha de plástico transparente con orillas rojas. Es bastante resistente pero maleable, con detalles impresos relacionados a temas marítimos (como los dibujitos de timón y el paliacate de marinero).
En la caja vienen impresos el nombre de la crema, descripción, instrucciones, ingredientes, precauciones e información de la empresa. Toda la información viene impresa tanto en inglés como en coreano.

The packaging is too adorable. Even the box that contains the jar is too much cute. The box is made of transparent plastic with red details. It's quite resistant but malleable, with printed details related to maritime themes (such as the rudder drawings and the sailor's bandana).
In the box are printed the name of the cream, description, directions, ingredients, precautions and information of the company. All information is printed in both English and Korean.
Sacando el envase del empaque, se puede ver que es de plástico negro duro y brilloso (me costó trabajo sacar las fotografías porque reflejaba mucho las superficies XD). Mide aproximadamente unos 7-8 cm de alto. La parte frontal tiene impresa la carita del pulpo y en la parte trasera el nombre de la crema y una pequeña descripción escrita en coreano. También tiene el símbolo PAO, con 12 meses de caducidad como referencia.

El pulpo se gira de la parte superior, y al retirar la tapa se puede ver una tapa más delgada de plástico transparente, con el nombre "Tony Moly" en relieve. Ésta sirve como cubierta para proteger a la crema de agentes externos y contaminación. En la base del pulpo (bajo la "pancita") se puede ver la fecha de elaboración impresa en letras verdosas brillantes (lamento que se vean borrosas, tomé la fotografía mucho después de recibir el producto y ya se había borrado gran parte de la tinta ب_ب). En la base, también se puede apreciar una cuña que le da estabilidad al empaque.

The octopus is rotated from the top, and when you remove the lid you can see a thinner transparent plastic lid, with the name "Tony Moly" in relief. This serves as a cover to protect the cream from external agents and contamination. At the base of the octopus (under the "belly") you can see the production date printed in bright green letters (sorry if it's blurred, I took the picture long time after receiving the product and the ink is almost erased ب_ب). At the base, you can also see a wedge that gives stability to the packaging.

Durante el Black Friday del año pasado, tuve la oportunidad de comprar esta crema junto con los otros Takito's en la tienda de eBay de Jolse (iamlove-shop) utilizando algunos cupones de descuento. Lo he dicho ya, la compré por el empaque (como la mayoría de cosas de Tony Moly que he comprado XuX), y la verdad me llamó la atención el hecho de que tuviera el "sebum control" en el nombre.
Aunque la crema luzca pequeña, la "barriga" del pulpo es bastante profunda y contiene bastante crema. Sin embargo, no viene con espátula o algún tipo de cuchara, hay que tomarla directamente con los dedos.
El gel-crema es bastante ligero, y tiene un color blanquecino similar al de la silicona fría. El aroma es suave, pero si eres muy sensible a las fragancias probablemente no te agrade. Yo percibo un olor similar al del agua salada mezclada con perfume dulce, no tiene mucho sentido pero es un aroma que me recuerda demasiado al mar. Dado que en su lista de ingredientes vienen incluidas siliconas, la textura es suave, sedosa y brillante. Se esparce fácilmente sobre la piel y se absorbe de inmediato, dejando un acabado mate como promete la descripción de la caja. La ventaja de esta crema es que rinde bastante, con un poco tienes suficiente para todo tu rostro.
Entre los ingredientes que se mencionan en la lista vienen incluidos la Silica, un mineral utilizado para absorber el sebo y matificar la piel, al igual que fungir como agente espesante; el agua de mar profundo (DSW en inglés), que se refiere al agua bombeada desde más de 200 metros de profundidad, ha sido estudiada pues se relaciona a la reducción de respuestas alérgicas en la piel y promover la recuperación de heridas; el polvo de coral, una fuente rica en calcio al que se le atribuyen propiedades exfoliantes y purificantes; la taurina, un aminoácido con diversas funciones como la reparación de barrera de la piel, antioxidantes, anti-inflamatorias y anti-toxinas y la sal de mar, que ayuda a mejorar la hidratación en la piel y a reducir la inflamación. Con estos ingredientes exóticos, uno podría pensar que tiene asegurada la limpieza y reducción de poros, así como una buena hidratación de la piel.

Although the cream looks small, the octopus "belly" is quite deep and contains enough cream. However, it doesn't come with a spatula or some kind of spoon, you have to take it directly with your fingers.
The gel-cream is quite light, and has a whitish color similar to that of the cold silicone. The aroma is soft, but if you are very sensitive to fragrances you probably won'tt like it. I perceive a smell similar to salt water mixed with sweet perfume, it doesn't make much sense but it's an aroma that reminds me the sea a lot. Since in its list of ingredients you can find silicones, the texture is soft, silky and bright. It spreads easily on the skin and is absorbed immediately, leaving a matte finish as promised by the description of the box. The advantage of this cream is that it lasts long time, with a little amount you have enough for your whole face.
Among the ingredients mentioned in the list are silica, a mineral used to absorb sebum and matify the skin, as well as to act as a thickening agent/ Deep Sea Water (DSW), which refers to water pumped from more than 200 meters, has been studied as it relates to the reduction of allergic responses in the skin and promote the wounds healing/ coral powder, a source rich in calcium with exfoliating and purifying properties/taurine, an amino acid with various functions such as skin barrier repair, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-toxins and sea salt, which helps improve skin hydration and reduce inflammation. With these exotic ingredients, one could think that it has assured the cleansing and reduction of pores, as well as a good hydration of the skin.
Pese a que los ingredientes suenan atractivos para las personas que tenemos piel grasa, hay algunas cosas que tengo que comentarles. La he utilizado tanto en Invierno como en Primavera-Verano y en ambas temporadas he visto un patrón similar, al menos en mi piel grasa:
Durante el Invierno y en días fríos recientes, mi piel no producía tanta grasa y se quedaba más o menos como piel mixta, por lo que esta crema le quedaba demasiado corta de humectación. Como hay demasiado frío en esta ciudad, al utilizarla sentía que le faltaba humectación a mi piel, tenía que complementarla con una emulsión o una sleeping pack más densa.
Durante Primavera-Verano, mi piel volvía a ser grasa y mi rutina consistía en utilizar hidratantes en serums o ampoules y, como esta gel-cream me había quedado mal en cuanto a hidratación y humectación, la usaba al final para "sellar" la acción de los otros productos. Y funcionaba bastante bien para prevenir la pérdida de agua, pero definitivamente no proveía mucha hidratación ni humectación.
En resumen y de modo personal, siento que no hidrata ni humecta lo suficiente, y esto podría ser un problema para piel deshidratada, normal y seca.
Del control de sebo y reducción de poros, realmente no vi ninguna mejoría. Es cierto que suaviza el aspecto de los poros pero de modo temporal (como casi todos estos productos "reductores de poros" o "control de sebo"). Y no controla el sebo demasiado bien, cuando uso esta gel-cream con productos que no son tan hidratantes, mi piel produce sebo como loca. Simplemente no aguanto la sensación, es como drenar totalmente la piel hasta que queda totalmente seca y mi piel lo interpreta como "¡lancen más sebo!". Como ya he mencionado, no esperen que sea demasiado hidratante ಠ,ಥ. Sé que muchos de sus componentes, como la silica, deben drenar y absorber el sebo (y he ahí la función de "control de sebo"), pero debería compensarse con una buena hidratación. De lo contrario no vale la pena pues al quedar seca, la piel se sobreestimula y produce sebo en mayor cantidad. Sólo un recordatorio para este tipo de productos: La hidratación no está peleada con una mejora en la producción de sebo, ¿eh? ¬¬
Para no quedarme con la espinita, hice una prueba como las que he realizado anteriormente relacionadas a control de sebo y poros, para salir de dudas. Lavé mi rostro por la mañana y dividí mi rostro en dos partes: coloqué del lado derecho el tónico Hyaluron Aqua Micro Peel Toner de Secret Key y la Tako Pore Sebum Control Gel Cream, mientras que del lado izquierdo sólo coloqué la Gel Cream. El tónico lo coloqué para ver si influía de alguna forma en la función de la crema. En ambos lados, se apreciaba una disminución del tamaño de mis poros (aunque no se redujeron totalmente) y la piel se veía suave. Al realizar la prueba con los papeles para control de sebo, en ambos lados no había rastro de oleosidad.

Although the ingredients sound attractive to people who have oily skin, there are some things I must tell you. I've used it in Winter and Spring-Summer and in both seasons I've seen a repeated pattern, at least in my oily skin:
During the Winter and in recent cold days, my skin didn't produce too much sebum and it stayed like combinated skin, and this was the reason why this cream was poor in moisture. As there is too cold in this city, when I used it I felt that my skin lacked moisture, I had to complement it with a more dense emulsion or sleeping pack.
During Spring-Summer, my skin was oily again and my routine was to use based in hydrating serums or ampoules and, since this gel-cream was really bad in terms of hydration and moisture, I used it at the end to "seal" the action of the other products. And it works pretty well to prevent water loss, but it definitely doesn't bring too much hydration or moisture.
As a summary and in a personal opinion, I feel that it doesn't hydrate too much, and it doesn't provides enough moisture neither, this could be a problem for dehydrated, normal and dry skin.
About the sebum control and shrink pores, I really didn't see any improvement. It's true that it softens the appearance of the pores but temporarily (like almost all these "shrink pores" or "sebum control" products). And it doesn't control sebum too well, when I use this gel-cream with products that aren't too much hydrating, my skin produces sebum like nuts. I just can't stand the sensation, it's like my skin is completely draining until it's dry and my skin see this as "throw more sebum!". As I mentioned, don't expect it to be too hydrating ಠ,ಥ. I know that many of its components, like silica, must drain and absorb sebum (and that is the "sebum control" function), but it should be compensated with good hydration. Otherwise it is not worth it because when it's dry, the skin overstimulates and produces sebum in greater quantity. Just as a reminder for these type of products: Hydration and the improvement in sebum production aren't foes, huh? ¬¬
In order to give it another chance, I did a test like the ones I've done previously related to sebum control and pores, just to be sure. I washed my face in the morning and divided my face in two parts: on the right side, I used the Hyaluron Aqua Micro Peel Toner by Secret Key plus the Tako Pore Sebum Control Gel Cream, while on the left side I only used the Gel Cream. I used the toner to see if it influenced in any way the function of the cream. On both sides, there was a decrease in the size of my pores (although they weren't completely reduced) and the skin looked soft. When performing the test with the oil papers for sebum control, on both sides there was no trace of oiliness.
Pasada aproximadamente hora y media después, mi piel comenzaba a lucir brillosa, se sentía muy grasosa y los poros regresaron a su aspecto normal en ambos lados. Al colocar los papeles controladores de sebo, pude retirar bastante cantidad en ambos lados. Y estamos hablando de que sólo pasó hora y media aproximadamente.

After about an hour and a half later, my skin began to look shiny, felt very greasy and the pores returned to their normal appearance on both sides. By placing the oil papers, I was able to remove a lot on both sides. And we're talking about it only spent about an hour and a half.
Algo que tampoco me termina de convencer es que es incompatible con los protectores solares inorgánicos, lo he probado varias veces y siempre ocurre lo mismo. A las pocas horas de ponerme el protector solar, comenzaban a formarse unas pequeñas bolitas alrededor del contorno de mi rostro que se caían si las tocaba o cuando sudaba: Era el protector inorgánico que comenzaba a caerse conforme pasaba el día ಠ~ಠ. Y sé que el problema es entre estos dos productos, porque cuando he usado protectores solares orgánicos y la gel cream no hay ningún problema y ambos se absorben bien. También he probado cambiando la crema y utilizando el mismo protector inorgánico y no se forman estas dichosas bolitas. No sé si la textura de la gel cream influya, pero definitivamente no recomiendo utilizarla con protectores solares inorgánicos o BB creams que tengan este tipo de filtros, o al menos no usarla sin poner después un primer que ayude a suavizar la apariencia de los poros, de lo contrario la piel se verá irregular y tu maquillaje no lucirá muy bien.
Puedo decir que si tienes poros ligeramente agrandados, buscas un producto ligero para terminar tu rutina y no tienes problemas con las siliconas este producto te pueda servir. Pero si tienes poros muy grandes y estás buscando un producto para mejorar su aspecto, quizás esta crema no sea la mejor. A pesar de que su consistencia puede suavizar el aspecto de los poros, lo cierto es que si son demasiado alargados no tiene mucha eficacia.

Something that doesn't convince me either is that it's incompatible with inorganic sunscreens, I've tested it several times and the same thing always happens. A few hours after I put on my sunscreen, little balls form around my face edge that fell if I touched them or when I sweated: It was the inorganic sunscreen that began to fall as the day passed ಠ~ಠ. And I know that the problem is between these two products, because when I've used organic sunscreens and the gel cream together there is no problem and both are absorbed well. I have also tried changing the cream and using the same inorganic protector and these little balls don't get formed. I don't know if the gel-cream texture influences this, but I definitely don't recommend using it with inorganic sunscreens or BB creams that have this type of filters, or at least not using it without putting a primer that helps to soften the appearance of the pores, otherwise the skin will look irregular and your makeup won't look very good.
I can say that if you have slightly enlarged pores, if you are looking for a light product to finish your routine and you don't have problems with the silicones go for this product. But if you have very enlarged pores and you're looking for a product to improve their appearance, maybe this cream is not the best. Although its consistency can soften the appearance of pores, the truth is that if they are too long, it doesn't have much efficacy.

Pese a que es de precio accesible y el empaque es una monada, pienso que podría conseguir una mejor crema ligera pero más hidratante para mi piel. Lo más probable es que no la compre nuevamente, además ya tengo el empaque lindo que quería jajaja (☉∀☉), no le veo sentido a comprarlo otra vez.

Although it's affordable and the packaging is cute, I think I could get a better light cream but more hydrating for my skin. Probably I won't repurchase it again, besides I already have the cute package I wanted hahaha (☉∀☉), I don't see any sense in buying it again.

What do you think about this review? The truth is that this Tako Pore line by Tony Moly promised a lot, and just some products are good (at least for me). I still have a couple of little Tako to review, but I'll share them as soon as I take the photographs of the products. I think most of the K-beauty fans have fallen for Tony Moly's lovable packaging (Hallelujah sisters! ◡ω◡), that's for sure. ayy siii es tan lindo el empaque pero obviamente no es para mi tipo de piel. Ojalá fuera mas hidratante, en realidad tonymoly no me atrae en cuidado facial, pero sus empaques son maravillosos jajaja sera el otro tako el amarillito?

¡Sí! Es una chulada pero la verdad no vale mucho la pena T-T Ni siquiera para mi piel grasa la veo útil. Tienes razón, les falla un poco para cuidado facial, yo traía en wishlist la línea de Green Tea de Chok Chok pero necesito ver sus ingredientes. ¡No, aún no lo compro! Pero volveré a comprar por el empaque, ¡de veras que no entiendo hahaha! XD
