REVIEW: [SKINMISO] Pore Purifying Toner

¡Buen día! ¿Cómo han estado? Antes que nada quiero pedirles una disculpa por el laaargo retraso. He estado ausente porque me mudé y ya sabrán lo tedioso y lento que es el proceso, ¡no queda más que dividirse en cachitos para poder terminar todos los pendientes!ヾ(ﾟдﾟ)ﾉ Pero nada como escribir una reseña de un producto que puede servirles a quienes, al igual que yo, pertenecen al club de los poros grandes y piel grasa ヽ(´▽｀)ノ. ¡Empecemos con la reseña! ♥


Siendo honesta, todos los productos que tengan inscrito "Pore control", "No sebum" o "Zero sebum" en sus etiquetas tienen una alta probabilidad de que yo los compre. Sé que realmente estos nombres vistosos muchas veces son más un producto de la mercadotecnia que un Santo Grial que funcione, pero me gusta probar productos para ver si hay alguno que por lo menos me ayude un poco con esta situación (sé que no se puede hacer nada más que controlar el tamaño de los poros y la grasa que se produce, así que trato de enfocarme en esos puntos).

Fue aquí donde encontré este tónico de la marca Skinmiso. Skinmiso es una marca cosmética coreana que se enfoca en problemas relacionados a poros y a exfoliación, y consideran que el secreto para tener una piel de ensueño, asimismo que la base del cuidado facial, es el manejo de las células muertas de la piel. Así, colaborando con 5 tipos de expertos en cuidado facial – entre ellos dermatólogos, estéticos profesionales, farmacéuticos, médicos que trabajan con medicina oriental tradicional y desarrolladores cosméticos – es que se desarrolla la marca Skinmiso.

Cuando investigué sobre los productos de esta marca, encontré información detallada sobre sus best sellers: el Pore Corset Serum y el Pore Beauty Nose, aunque no había muchas reseñas de este tónico. Pero como estaba buscando un tónico hidratante que me ayudara a controlar el sebo, al ver que también ayudaba con los poros me llamó muchísimo la atención.

Hello there! How have you been? First of all, I want to apology for the late submission. I’ve been absent because I moved and you know how tedious and slow the process is, you just have to divide into little pieces to be able to finish all the pendant works! ヾ(ﾟдﾟ)ﾉ But nothing like writing a review of a product that can serve those who, like me, belong to the large pores and oily skin club ヽ(´▽｀)ノ. Let's start with the review! ♥

Being honest, all the products that have "Pore control", "No sebum" or "Zero sebum" inscribed on their labels have a huge chance that I’d buy them. I know that these colorful names are often more a marketing skill than a functional Holy Grail, but I like to try products to see if there are anything that, at least, help me a little bit with this situation (I know it can’t do nothing else than control the size of the pores and the produced sebum, so I try to focus on those points).

And here's where I found Skinmiso brand. Skinmiso is a Korean cosmetic brand that focuses on pore problems and exfoliation as it believes that the secret to having flawless skin and the basics of skincare are dead skin cells management. By collaborating with 5 skincare experts – dermatologists, aesthetic professionals, pharmacists, doctors of traditional oriental medicine and cosmetic developers – the brand Skinmiso was born.

When I researched about the products of this brand, I found detailed information about their best sellers: the Pore Corset Serum and the Pore Beauty Nose, although there weren’t many reviews of this toner. But since I was looking for a moisturizing toner that would help me to control the sebum too, when I see the ad about this toner it caught my attention.

El tónico viene dentro de una caja larga de color blanco, con letras grises y azules. La caja contiene la descripción del producto, el modo de uso, la lista de ingredientes e imágenes alusivas a las funciones del tónico. En la parte inferior están impresas la fecha de manufactura y de expiración.

Algo que sé que les encantará es que en uno de los lados de la caja viene impreso el modo de uso en distintos idiomas, abarcando el inglés, español, francés y alemán. Aprecio muchísimo este gesto porque las empresas coreanas están mirando hacia sus clientes internacionales y tratan de facilitarnos las cosas para disfrutar mejor los productos (y honestamente, son pocos los que voltean hacia el lado latinoamericano del mercado y se lanzan a traducir en español, ¡así que un aplauso enorme también! ٩(^‿^)۶)


The tonic comes inside a long white box, with gray and blue letters. The box contains the description of the product, how to use it, the list of ingredients and images allusive to the tonic functions. On the bottom, the date of manufacture and expiration are printed.

Something that I know you’ll love is that the “how of use” instructions are printed in different languages, including English, Spanish, French and German. I greatly appreciate this gesture because the Korean companies are looking towards their international customers and try to make things easier for us to enjoy the products better (and honestly, there are few brands who take consideration to the Latin American market and start to translate into Spanish, so cheers up for that! ٩(^‿^)۶)








En cuanto a la botella, es un envase pequeño y transparente, de unos 15 cm de altura (vamos que es del tamaño de la palma mi mano, aproximadamente) con un contenido de 250 ml. La botella tiene bordes redondeados. El dispensador es un agujero grande en uno de los extremos que se cierra con una tapa maciza, que tiene en relieve el símbolo de reciclaje.

Algo curioso que pude notar es que en la parte de la tapa viene adherida una etiqueta en blanco con la leyenda "OPEN DATE" o "Fecha de apertura" donde podemos escribir la fecha exacta cuando comenzamos a utilizar este tónico, creo que es algo muy útil ya que muchas veces, por descuido o desconocimiento, dejamos pasar la fecha de vencimiento y seguimos utilizando productos que posiblemente ya están caducados, pudiendo traer problemas de salud.

La parte frontal tiene la marca y el nombre del producto en inglés en letras de colores negro y azul, con imágenes y texto alusivos a la limpieza de suciedad, humectación y preparación de la piel, así como el contenido de la botella.

La parte posterior tiene inscripciones en hangul y en inglés, con textos e imágenes similares a las de la parte frontal. También bienen incluidos la descripción del producto, el modo de uso y el símbolo de la vida útil del producto, además de la página oficial de Skinmiso.

La parte inferior tiene impresas las fechas de Manufactura y de Expiración.


As for the bottle, it’s a small and transparent bottle, about 15 cm (I mean, it’s similar to my hand size, approximately) with a 250 ml content. The bottle has rounded edges. The dispenser is a large hole that closes with a solid cap, which has the recycling symbol.

Something curious that I could notice was that, in the part of the cap, a blank label with the legend "OPEN DATE" is attached where we can write the exact date when we started to use this toner, I think it’s something very useful since many times, due to carelessness or ignorance, we let the expiration date passes away and we still using products that are possibly expired already, which can bring health problems.

The front has the brand and the name of the product in English, in black and blue letters, with images and text alluding to the cleaning of dirt, moisture and preparation of the skin, as well as the content of the bottle.

The back has inscriptions in Hangul and English, with texts and images similar to those on the front. The description of the product, the instructions and the symbol of the storage life of the product, in addition to the official page of Skinmiso, are also included.

The lower part has the Manufacture and Expiration dates printed.

Conocí este tónico durante la temporada de Black Friday en Jolse, cuando anunció el lanzamiento de Skinmiso en su tienda con un buen descuento de todos los productos de la marca, al final logré comprarlo por $12.26 dólares (hoy en día se encuentra entre $14-17 dólares aproximadamente en Jolse). 

El tónico es totalmente incoloro y tiene una consistencia un tanto viscosa. Al agitar la botella suavemente pueden ver cómo se forman burbujas, y si lo agitan con más fuerza se formará un poco de espuma blanca. Cuando se abre el envase, se puede percibir un ligero olor a alcohol. 

Su lista de ingredientes no es muy larga, y muchos de ellos tienen propiedades que llaman bastante la atención, como ingredientes humectantes, antiinflamatorios, protectores de la piel y acondicionadores de la piel. Acorde a la lista de ingredientes en la caja, los ingredientes humectantes, protectores de la piel y antiinflamatorios se encuentran en los primeros lugares, por lo que este tónico promete bastante para hidratar y calmar las irritaciones de la piel mientras la mantiene limpia y lista para los siguientes pasos de la limpieza facial.


I met this toner during the Black Friday season in Jolse, when they announced the Skinmiso launch in their store with a good discount of all products related to the brand, at the end I bought it for $ 12.26 dollars (today it’s like $ 14-17 dollars approximately in Jolse).

The toner is totally colorless and has a somewhat viscous consistency. When you shake the bottle gently, you can see how bubbles form, and if you shake it hardly, a little white foam will appear. When the package is opened, a slight smell of alcohol can be perceived.

Its list of ingredients isn't very long, and many of them have interesting properties, such as moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, skin protectors and skin conditioners ingredients. According to the list of ingredients in the box, moisturizing, skin protection and anti-inflammatory ingredients are at the top, so this toner promises enough to moisturize and soothe skin irritations while keeping it clean and ready to the next steps of facial cleansing.

Haciendo una prueba de medición de pH con tiras, se puede ver que se encuentra en un rango de 5-6, lo que lo sitúa en ligeramente ácido, tal como indica Skinmiso.

Doing a pH measurement test with strips, you can see that this has a 5-6 pH rank, which places it as slightly acidic, as indicated by Skinmiso.


Por la forma del dispensador y el tamaño del orificio, me parece que fue creado con la finalidad de usarse junto con los pads de algodón para poder exfoliar adecuadamente. Pero la verdad yo terminé odiándolo, ya que cuando utilizaba el tónico directamente de la botella, se derramaba demasiado aunque se hiciera suavemente y se desperdiciaba mucho líquido, aún utilizando los pads. Por lo que preferí vertir un poco del tónico a una botella pequeña más maleable y con un dispensador más pequeño. De ahí en más no he tenido problemas.

Es justo decir que al ver la botella pequeña, en un principio pensé que no me duraría ni 3 meses. Y la verdad es que me sorprendió muchísimo. He compartido este tónico con mi marido durante meses y apenas llevamos la mitad de la botella, sin contar las botellas pequeñas que tengo guardadas (una para el refri y otra para uso diario), el líquido que uso para las mascarillas e incluso he compartido con mi hermano cuando voy a casa de mi madre. Y es que realmente al aplicarlo con las manos, se puede utilizar muy poco producto.

En cuanto a sus funciones principales, Skinmiso menciona las siguientes:
  • Hidratación
  • Exfoliación
  • Control de sebo
  • Calmar la piel sensible e irritada
Por lo que decidí probar cada uno de estos puntos para verificar su eficacia.



Due to the shape of the dispenser and the size of the hole, it seems to me that it was created with the purpose of being used with the cotton pads to exfoliate properly. But the truth is that I totally hated this, because when I used the toner directly from the bottle, it spilled too much even if it was done softly and a lot of liquid was wasted, even using the pads. So I preferred to pour some of the toner into a smaller bottle with a smaller dispenser. From then, I haven't had problems.

It's fair to say that, when I saw the small bottle, at first I thought "it won't last 3 months at least". And the truth is that I was very surprised. I've shared this toner with my husband for months and we barely consumed half content, and I'm not counting the small bottles that I have stored (one for the fridge and one for daily use), the liquid I use for the masks and even shared with my brother when I go to my mother's house. And, for real, when you apply it with your hands, you don't use too much product.

Regarding its main functions, Skinmiso mentions the following:
  • Hydration
  • Exfoliating
  • Sebum control
  • Soothe sensitive and irritated skin
So I decided to try each of these points to verify its effectiveness.


PRUEBA DE HIDRATACIÓN / HYDRATING TEST

Por su consistencia viscosa y su lista de ingredientes predominante en humectantes y protectores de la piel, es una función que puedo decir que cumple muy bien. A pesar del leve aroma de alcohol que se puede llegar a percibir, cuando lo uso no siento la piel seca o tirante, sino que siento que está más humectada y fresca. Vertí un poco del tónico en una botella pequeña que coloqué en el refrigerador y la verdad es que en días calurosos viene bastante bien para refrescar el rostro, aunque por la consistencia pienso que no podría cumplir como mist pues los dispensadores tipo spray no lo esparcen y se chorrea por los bordes (true story, me pasó a mí y puedo certificar que eso es cierto). También lo he probado para hidratar mascarillas tipo DIY y las ha dejado húmedas y frescas, incluso sin agregar algún serum o esencia extra vienen bien para desinflamar y refrescar el rostro.

Aquí les comparto también unas imágenes sobre mediciones que realicé haciendo pruebas verificando los niveles de hidratación y sebo, que si bien no son precisas al 100% pueden darnos una idea del cambio que genera en la piel.


Because of its viscous consistency and its list of ingredients predominant in moisturizers and skin protectors, it’s a function that I can say that it fulfills very well. Despite the slight alcohol aroma that can be perceived, when I use it I don’t feel my skin dry or tight, but I feel that it’s more moisturized and fresh. I poured some toner into a small bottle that I placed in the refrigerator and the truth is that on hot days it comes really handy to refresh the face, but for the consistency I think it couldn’t be used as mist because spray dispensers don’t spread it and it drops a lot (true story, it happened to me and I can certify that this is true). I have also tried it to hydrate DIY masks and the toner left them moist and fresh, even without adding any extra serum or essence the toner come well to reduce inflammation and refresh the face.

I also share some images about measurements that I made by testing the moist and oil levels, which although are not 100% accurate, it can give us an idea of the change that toner generates in the skin.

PRUEBA DE EXFOLIACIÓN / EXFOLIATION TEST

Probé la capacidad de este tónico utilizándolo sin los pads de algodón y realmente no observé ningún cambio representativo. Quizás su función exfoliante radica en que el modo de uso indica que debe aplicarse utilizando los pads, pero realmente no lo recomiendo en personas con piel sensible. Realicé la prueba con los pads de algodón varias veces durante varios días sesgados frotando suavemente los pads empapados de tónico en mi rostro, y en algunas ocasiones, mi rostro se veía más rojo, hinchado y con poros más visibles (a diferencia de cuando se aplica sólo con las manos y unas palmaditas). Además se gasta mucho más líquido de ese modo, por lo que no es una buena opción si estás considerando una rutina facial económica.


I tried to exfoliate using the toner without the cotton pads and I really didn’t notice any representative change. Perhaps its exfoliating function depends on the wat to use it, that indicates that it should be applied using the cotton pads, but I don’t recommend it on people with sensitive skin. I performed the test with the cotton pads several times over several days, rubbing gently the soaked toner pads on my face, and in some occasions, my face looked reddish, swollen and with more visible pores (unlike when applied just with your hands and a few pat pat). Plus, you totally drop a lot of toner if you use it in that way, so it’s not a good choice if you’re considering a cheap facial routine.

Al usar este tónico con otros productos durante varios meses, me he dado cuenta que es un excelente potenciador de cremas ligeras ó de tipo gel destinadas al control de sebo. Probando esta combinación de tónico + cremas, he notado que mis niveles de sebo en el rostro se mantienen constantes y no incrementan por un periodo de 6-7 horas aproximadamente (y eso ya es bastante para mi piel super grasa, además de que el tamaño de mis poros se mantiene controlado durante unas 4 horas sin usar nada más que este tónico y crema). Pero quería saber si este tónico tendría la capacidad de controlar la producción de sebo por sí sola por una buena cantidad de tiempo, así que hice esta pequeña prueba subjetiva:

Comencé a las 10:47 a.m., dividiendo mi rostro en dos partes: Una de ellas (la parte izquierda) la lavé con el limpiador de Low pH good morning gel cleanser de Cosrx, la sequé y después apliqué el tónico, mientras que la otra parte (la parte derecha) sólo la lavé con agua, la sequé y apliqué el tónico.

El objetivo de esta división era observar qué tan efectivo era el tónico para controlar la cantidad de sebo en el rostro, y si había alguna diferencia entre el uso del tónico o al aplicar otro producto extra como un limpiador por la mañana. Mediante el uso de papel para control de sebo, realicé pequeños toques en las partes de mi rostro que suelen estar más oleosas para remover el exceso y verificar si había diferencias entre ambos lados de la cara, mientras dejaba pasar cierto tiempo para observar si el tónico funcionaba.
 

When I used this toner with other products for several months, I've realized that it's an excellent booster of light creams or gel-type moisturizers related to sebum control. Trying this combination of toner + creams, I noticed that my sebum levels on the face remain constant and don't increase for a period of 6-7 hours (and that's enough for my super oily skin, plus the size of my pores stays controlled for about 4 hours without using anything other than this toner and cream). But I wanted to know if this toner'd have the ability to control sebum production on its own for a good amount of time, so I did this little subjective test:

I started at 10:47 a.m., dividing my face into two parts: One of them (the left side) was washed with Cosrx's low pH good morning gel cleanser, I dried it and then applied the toner, while the other part (the right part) I only washed it with water, dried it and applied the toner.

The purpose of this division was to observe how effective the toner was to control the amount of sebum on the face, and whether if there was any difference between using the toner by itself or applying another extra product as a morning cleanser. Through the use of oil control papers, I removed sebum with small touches on the parts of my face that are usually more oily and check if there were differences between both sides of the face, while spending some time to see if the toner it worked.



En un principio, se puede ver también una diferencia entre el aspecto de los poros. Mientras que del lado del limpiador y el tónico se aprecian más pequeños y menos brillosos, del lado del tónico se aprecian un poco más grandes en comparación del lado contrario.

 
At first, you can see a difference between the appearance of the pores too. While on the side of the cleanser and the toner are smaller and less shiny, on the side of the toner could be seen a little larger compared to the other side.



Al remover el exceso de sebo del rostro con los papeles, se puede observar que en el lado del limpiador y el tónico no hay muchos rastros de sebo, mientras que del lado del tónico se observa una mancha alargada en la orilla del papel. 

 
When I removed the sebum excess from the face with the oil papers, it can be seen that on the side of the cleanser and the toner there aren't too many traces of sebum, while on the side of the toner there was an elongated spot on the edge of the paper.



La segunda observación la realicé a la 1:17 p.m. En esta hora, ya sentía la cara un poco cargada de sebo y mis poros comenzaron a verse más grandes en ambos lados del rostro.

Para la segunda medición con los papeles se podían apreciar mayores cantidades de manchas oleosas, y sentí que removí una cantidad similar de sebo en ambos lados de mi rostro.


For the second measurement with the oil papers, greater amounts of oily stains could be seen, and I felt that I removed a similar amount of sebum on both sides of my face.


La tercera observación la realicé a las 3:36 p.m. En esta última parte, podía ver mi rostro más brilloso, sentirlo mucho más oleoso y mis poros tuvieron un efecto Cenicienta tremendo: volvieron a verse grandes en ambos lados. ¡Se acabó el encanto! ┒(ˇДˇ)┎ 


The third observation was done at 3:36 p.m. In this last part, I could see my face brighter, feel it much more oily and my pores had a tremendous Cinderella effect: they looked bigger on both sides again. Bye bye lovely spell! ┒(ˇДˇ)┎




En cuanto a las pruebas del papel, removí un poco más de sebo del lado del limpiador y el tónico, aunque yo sentía el rostro similar en ambos lados. Del lado del tónico también removí una cantidad considerable.


As for the tests of the oil paper, I removed more sebum from the side of the cleanser and the toner, although I felt the same oily sensation on both sides. On the toner side I also removed a considerable sebum amount.
En base a estas observaciones, puedo decir que este tónico por sí solo sirve para controlar la producción de sebo, pero no esperen que sea por un largo tiempo. En este caso, tendrán que echar mano de otros productos como los que les mencioné o algún otro que haya sido efectivo para ustedes, ya que es un buen potenciador e incluso mejora la apariencia de los poros por bastante tiempo.


Based on these observations, I can say that this toner is useful to control the sebum production by itself, but don't expect it to be for a long time. In this case, you'll have to use other products like the ones I mentioned or something else that has been effective for you, since it's a good booster and even improves the appearance of the pores for a longer time.


¿ES EFECTIVO PARA CALMAR PIEL SENSIBLE E IRRITADA? / 
IS IT EFFECTIVE TO SOOTHE SENSITIVE AND IRRITATED SKIN?

Sé que esto sonará irónico, pero si no es usado con los pads de algodón para exfoliar, este tónico es eficaz para calmar irritaciones y pequeñas inflamaciones. Incluso en casos donde mi rostro quedaba como un tomate pateado, ardiendo y muy sensible (ya sea porque me excedía con el tiempo para la exfoliación física, porque me salían granos dolorosos o que comenzaba a utilizar exfoliación química) al aplicar el tónico usando sólo los dedos podía percibir una sensación de frescura y mi rostro no se veía tan inflamado en pocos minutos. Esta sensación es mucho mejor si el tónico se utiliza frío, es como poner una compresa de agua fría y uno va sintiendo como la piel absorbe el líquido frío mientras se va desinflamando. Uno pensaría que por el olor a alcohol habría problemas o un dolor más agudo, pero veo que es efectivo ante irritaciones y no me ha generado efectos secundarios, siempre y cuando lo utilice sin los pads de algodón.

 
I know this’ll sound ironic, but if it is not used with cotton pads to exfoliate, this tonic is effective in soothing irritations and small inflammations. Even in cases where my face was like a kicked tomato, burning and feeling very sensitive (either because I exceeded time for physical exfoliation, because I had painful pimples or when I started to use chemical exfoliation) when I applying the tonic with just my fingers I could feel freshness sensation and my face didn’t look so inflamed in a few minutes. This feeling is much better if the toner is used cold, it’s like putting a cold water compress and you can feel how your skin absorbs the cold liquid while it is deflating. You would think that, because of the alcohol smell there would be problems or a more acute pain, but I see that it’s effective against irritations and it hasn’t generated side effects, as long as I use it without the cotton pads.

Me gusta mucho la sensación hidratante que le da a mi piel, pero me echa para atrás el olor a alcohol. Llevaba un tiempo usando tónicos astringentes y el olor a alcohol es algo que relaciono de inmediato con una reacción resecante (y la verdad es que este pobre tónico no tiene la culpa, porque cumple bien su función hidratante). Aún estoy indecisa, pero por el momento me gustaría probar otros tónicos hidratantes y poder reseñarlos para ustedes, así que lo dejaremos pendiente por si algún otro tónico no me convence (`･ω･´).


I really like the moisturizing sensation that it gives to my skin, but the smell of alcohol makes me go back. I've been using astringent toners for a while and the smell of alcohol is something that I immediately relate to a drying reaction in my skin (and the truth is this poor toner isn't guilty of this, because it fulfills its moisturizing function very well). I'm still undecided, but for the moment I would like to try other moisturizing toners and be able to review them for you, so we'll leave it pending if some other toner doesn't convince me (`･ω･´).

Yo hace dos meses pedí uno de Isntree ya que en el blog de Evelyn y en su grupo de Facebook se ha mencionado mucho este producto. Espero que pueda ser benéfico con esta piel grasosa que tengo, mucho más ahora que acá se aproxima primavera y ando en busca de algo fresco e hidratante ヽ(〃＾▽＾〃)ﾉ.

I'd like to try more toners and write more reviews like this one, which one are you using now? I bought a toner from Isntree two months ago since Evelyn's blog and her Facebook group mentioned this product a lot. I hope this toner can be beneficial with this oily skin that I have, and now that spring approaches here I'm looking for something fresh and moisturizingヽ(〃＾▽＾〃)ﾉ.

I say goodbye and I hope to bring you a useful review soon, I have many products on the list but I'll try to do something that includes other types of skin besides oily skin, I promise by the little jar! <('o'<)

    Yo tengo los poros como los tuyos y mucho peor porque se ven obstruidos por filamentos sebaceos que salen a la superficie como puntos blancos por la nariz y mejillas. Ya mañana voy a correos a recoger mi paquete donde vienen mis productos de skincare y ojalá me ayuden a controlar mi problema.

      ¡Oh sí! Me doy una idea de cómo son los tuyos, algo así le pasaba a mi marido también en su nariz. ¿Sabes qué fue lo que le ayudó mucho? El BHA Blackhead Power Liquid de Cosrx, lleva ya dos semanas usándolo y los poros se le ven más limpios e incluso hay pequeñas manchas de la piel que se le están yendo (no te prometo nada respecto al tamaño de los poros porque ya ves que es más cuestión de control y no de arreglo ;w;). ¡Suerte con tu problema! Nos cuentas qué te llegó en tu pedido, siempre es lindo ver Hauls <3
