Los beneficios observados en productos fermentados les han valido muchas investigaciones en el área médica, pero entonces... ¿Qué tienen que ver con los cosméticos que incluyen fermentos en sus ingredientes?

Como ya les había comentado, durante la fermentación se obtienen nutrientes de pequeña estructura molecular, entre ellos podemos encontrar aminoácidos, vitaminas y antioxidantes. Y es a partir de este punto donde hay opiniones divididas en su uso en cosméticos: Mientras hay científicos que argumentan que gracias a este pequeño tamaño los nutrientes logran ser mejor absorbidos y le brindan más beneficios a la piel, otros comentan que estos beneficios no pueden ser medidos en su totalidad, ya que si el tamaño de las partículas es demasiado pequeño podrían dejar de ser funcionales y no aportar nada una vez aplicados en la piel, además de que los resultados que se obtienen en un ambiente controlado como es un laboratorio (donde se tienen bien controlados factores como temperatura, luz, humedad, etc.) podrían diferir de los resultados que se puedan obtener de un ambiente externo totalmente abierto y con condiciones cambiantes constantemente. Así que sólo nos queda seguir a la expectativa de nuevos documentos científicos que puedan aportar mayor información sobre su funcionalidad, y probar productos acorde a nuestras necesidades y condiciones en la piel para ver si hay alguna mejoría.

Todo este testamento que recién les compartí es para tratar de hacer más comprensible el ingrediente fermentado que se utiliza en esta crema de contorno de ojos: el fermento lisado de Bifida (llamado en inglés Bifida ferment lysate). Es un producto que se obtiene de la fermentación que realiza el lactobacilo Bifidobacterium longum, que se encuentra de modo natural en nuestro tracto gastrointestinal. Durante este proceso de fermentación las bacterias son destruidas, por lo que el producto final que se recolecta es el fermento que ellas generan y no las bacterias vivas (a esto se refiere el término "lisado", a que la bacteria no está viva y por tanto no afectará a las bacterias naturales de la piel).

This process is always performed anaerobically, that is, when there is no oxygen. We can observe this process in consumer products such as beer, yogurt and wine. The best of all is that in addition to obtaining delicious products, they are also beneficial to our body by consuming them. It is known that these foods improve the health of our intestinal tract because they stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria, also serve as support in diseases such as cancer and increase the availability of nutrients in food.

Although it seems that they have no relationship, it's important to mention that the state of our gastrointestinal system will affect our dermatological condition. Recently, Liah Yoo (youtuber recognized for her facial care content, focused on acne) has uploaded a video to her channel where she explains that there must be an adequate number of beneficial bacteria in our digestive system to have a healthy complexion; otherwise, there'll be inflammation processes that'll be reflected as aggressive acne breakouts. The benefits observed in fermented products have been worth a lot of research in medical area, but then... Which is the relationship between our cosmetics that include ferments in their ingredients and this?

As I had already mentioned, during the fermentation, small molecular structure nutrients are obtained, among them we can find amino acids, vitamins and antioxidants. And it's from this point where there are divided opinions in their use in cosmetics: Meanwhile there are scientists who argue that thanks to this small size the nutrients can be better absorbed and give more benefits to the skin, others comment that these benefits can't work if the size of the particles is too small, they couldn't be functional anymore and they wouldn't contribute anything once applied to the skin, in addition to the results obtained in a controlled environment such as a laboratory (where factors such as temperature, light, humidity, etc. are totally controlled) could differ from the results that can be obtained from a completely open and constantly changing external environment. So we must have to keep waiting for new scientific documents that can provide more information about its functionality, and test products according to our skin needs and conditions to see if there is any improvement.

All this testament that I just shared with you is to try to make more understandable the fermented ingredient that is used in this eye cream: the Bifida ferment lysate. It's a product obtained from the fermentation carried out by lactobacillus Bifidobacterium longum, which is naturally found in our gastrointestinal tract. During this fermentation process the bacteria are destroyed, so the final product that is collected is the ferment they generate and not the live bacteria (this is what the term "lysate" refers to, that the bacterium is not alive and both won't affect the skin's natural bacteria).

Y a todo esto... ¿Para qué sirve este fermento lisado de Bifida? Hace tiempo, se dio a conocer un estudio in vitro donde se indicaba que este fermento ayuda a mejorar la función protectora de la barrera natural de la piel y que disminuye la sensibilidad en la piel, haciéndola resistente a agentes físicos y químicos, y que también disminuye la resequedad en la piel con su uso constante. Sin embargo, este artículo fue tomado con pinzas por muchos conocedores del ámbito científico, ya que fue publicado por la empresa que lanzó al mercado uno de los productos pioneros que contenía este fermento lisado de Bífida (*Spoiler: Fue L'Oréal y su producto Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair). De cualquier forma, Incide Coder tiene información que indica que también protege contra los daños que ocasionan los rayos UV y ayuda a la reparación del ADN, así como Isntree indica también que este componente contiene abundantes proteínas, sacáridos y vitaminas que ayudan a fortalecer la barrera protectora de la piel y le dan textura uniforme a la piel.

El uso de este tipo de fermentos es algo polémico y no hay un concepto a ciencia cierta de lo que pueda funcionar o no, de nueva cuenta sólo quedará probarlos y esperar nuevos reportes científicos que nos sirvan de referencia para conocer sus propiedades.

Pasando a los otros ingredientes, podemos encontrar algunos con propiedades importantes:

Complejo 3GF: Que está formado por 3 diferentes péptidos:

Acetyl Hexapéptido-8: Es un péptido de bajo peso molecular que se absorbe rápidamente. Bloquea neurotransmisores con la finalidad de reducir las actividades musculares repetitivas que ocasionan las arrugas, haciendo que la piel luzca uniforme y voluminosa. Tiene actividad sinérgica con el complejo 3GF.

Niacinamida: Ayuda a combatir la inflamación, combate los radicales libres y le brinda luminosidad a la piel.

Adenosina: Tiene propiedades para control de formación de arrugas y proporciona vitalidad a la piel cansada.

Manteca de karité y Manteca de semilla de mango: Son ricas en humectación y que crean un filme para mantener la piel nutrida y humectada durante todo el día. 

Ceramida NP: Ayuda a humectar y fortalecer la barrera protectora de la piel.

Escualano: Funciona como emoliente, humectante y posee actividades antioxidantes.

Tocoferol: Posee actividades antioxidantes.

...Ahora sí, mi experiencia con este producto.

Después de esta laaaaaarga introducción (disculpen ustedes tanta palabrería ∩︵∩), por fin puedo contarles mi experiencia con este producto.

Hace tiempo que estaba buscando un contorno de ojos que pudiera ayudarme a corregir lo mejor posible muchos detallitos que he visto en la piel cercana a mis ojos (párpados superiores muy pigmentados, ojeras marcadas, líneas finas que comienzan a aparecer, piel siempre seca y apagada...). Encontré una solución en el contorno de ojos de Purebess, el cual por cierto contiene filtrado de fermento de Galactomyces (una levadura). Era bueno, bonito y barato, parecía que era la mejor opción a probar... Hasta que mi Dermatitis Seborreica interfirió con nuestra relación 💔. Y lamento decirles que si ustedes sufren de esta condición, probablemente tampoco la puedan utilizar (así como los productos con Saccharomyces... ¡Auch! ╥_╥). Esto se debe a que esta condición de la piel y el cuero cabelludo predispone a que haya un desarrollo acelerado de levaduras como Malassezia, que generan una producción exagerada de sebo que al mismo tiempo creará un medio adecuado para que estas levaduras se sigan desarrollando (es un maldito círculo vicioso, pues ಥ_ಥ Pero se puede controlar si asistes al dermatólogo para que evalúe tu condición y te brinde tratamiento adecuado). El uso de productos con levaduras podría incrementar la actividad de Malassezia en nuestra piel, llegando incluso a empeorar la condición de Dermatitis Seborreica, por lo que es preferible evitar usar productos con estos ingredientes o bien tener cuidado al estar bajo tratamiento de dicha condición.

Pero no todo es tan malo si posees esta condición, ya que existen otras alternativas si es que deseas probar los productos fermentados. Fue así que me convencí con esta crema, ya que el fermento que se utiliza es obtenido de lactobacilos y no de levaduras, que además pueden brindar beneficios en piel con Dermatitis Seborreica (gracias a Virtudes por compartir este artículo). Esto y, como les había comentado, la marca se ganó mi confianza desde que utilicé su tónico con buenos resultados. 

Esta crema de color blanquecino tiene textura sedosa ya que contiene siliconas (ojo aquí si es que las estás evitando), y al aplicarse se convierte en una pasta espesa que se esparce fácilmente sobre la piel. Es muy humectante, y si tienes piel grasa podría tardar en absorberse. Yo suelo tomar una porción del tamaño de un chícharo y con eso tengo suficiente para el contorno de mis ojos, párpados superiores e inclusive para las líneas que se marcan entre mis cejas. También la he probado en zonas secas de mi cuerpo como brazos o piernas y se absorbe mucho más rápido. Yo la utilizo como única crema para esta zona sin aplicar después crema facial o sleeping pack, ya que siento que no necesito más humectación. Una vez absorbida, deja la piel suave, rellena y firme.

Por más que lo intenté, no pude percibir ningún aroma en esta crema. Y si recuerdo bien, esto es señal de que Isntree mantiene su pacto de "productos sin aromas artificiales" al pie de la letra, por lo que puede ser una buena opción si buscas productos sin fragancia. 

Algunos usos prácticos extra que Isntree sugiere para esta crema son:

Yo la he probado como crema facial y es realmente humectante, quizás podría caer pesada para piel grasa. Al menos en mi piel tarda en absorberse, aún cuando aplico poca cantidad. Es por esto que yo recomendaría su uso como crema facial en piel seca o normal. De igual forma, la he probado en zonas comunes de arrugas y mis mejillas siguen sin absorberla, pero no hay problema al aplicarla en el ceño o en la zona donde se forman las famosas "patas de gallo", pues se absorbe bien sin dejar rastros grasos.

Como la mayoría de los productos de Isntree, su fecha de expiración es bastante corta después de abierto el producto (6 meses después de abrir el empaque).

Ok, but after all this... What's the use of this Bifida ferment lysate? Some time ago, an in vitro study was announced which indicated that this ferment helps to improve the protective function of the skin's natural barrier and that it diminishes the sensitivity in the skin, making it resistant to physical and chemical agents, and also reduces dryness of the skin with constant use. However, this article was taken with skepticism by many people of the scientific field, since it was published by the same company that launched one of the pioneering products containing this Bifida ferment lysate (*Spoiler: It was L'Oréal and its product Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair). If you want to know more about this topic of the controversial article, you can read this ScientiaBlog entry where they explain it in a better way.

In any case, Incide Coder has information that claims that also protects against damage caused by UV rays and helps repair DNA. Isntree also indicates that this component contains abundant proteins, saccharides and vitamins that help strengthen the barrier skin and give smooth texture.

The use of this type of ferment is controversial and there is no concept if this could work or not, again we'll have to test it and wait for new scientific reports that serve as a reference to know their properties.

Let's talk about other ingredients, we can find some with important properties: 

3GF complex: That is formed by 3 different peptides:

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8: It's a low molecular weight peptide that is absorbed quickly. It blocks neurotransmitters in order to reduce repetitive muscle activities that cause wrinkles, making the skin look smooth and voluminous. It has synergistic activity with the 3GF complex. 

Niacinamide: Helps fight inflammation, fights free radicals and gives the skin luminosity. 

Adenosine: Has control wrinkle formation properties and provides vitality to tired skin. 

Shea Butter and Mango Seed Butter: Both are rich in moisture and create a film to keep the skin nourished and moisturized throughout the day. 

Ceramide NP: Helps to moisturize and strengthen the skin barrier.

Squalane: It works as an emollient, moisturizer and has antioxidant activities.

Tocopherol: It has antioxidant activities.

... And now, my experience with this product.

After this looooong introduction (excuse me for being so chatty ∩︵∩), I can finally tell you my experience with this product.

Some time ago, I was looking for an eye cream that could help me to correct as much as possible many small details that I've seen on the skin near my eyes (very pigmented upper eyelids, marked dark circles, fine lines that begin to appear, always dry skin...). I found a solution in the Purebess eye cream, which contains Galactomyces ferment filtrate (a yeast) by the way. It was good, nice and cheap, it seemed like the best option to test... Until my Seborrheic Dermatitis interfered with our relationship 💔. And I'm sorry to tell you that if you suffer from this condition too, you probably can't use it either (as well as products containing Saccharomyces ... Ouch! ╥_╥). This is because this skin and scalp condition predisposes to accelerated yeasts development such as Malassezia, which generate an exaggerated sebum production that, at the same time, will create an adequate enviroment for these yeasts to keep developing theirselves (it's a damn vicious circle, boy ಥ_ಥ But you can control it if you assist the dermatologist to evaluate your condition and they give you adequate treatment). The use of products with yeasts could increase the activity of Malassezia in our skin, even worsening the condition of Seborrheic Dermatitis, so it's preferable to avoid using products with these ingredients or be careful when being under treatment of this condition.

But if you have this condition there still being a hope, since there are other alternatives if you want to try the fermented products. It was so I was convinced with this eye cream, since the ferment used is obtained from lactobacilli and not yeast, which can also provide benefits in skin with seborrheic dermatitis (special thanks to Virtudes for sharing this article). Plus, the brand gained my trust since I used their toner with good results.

This whitish cream has a silky texture since it contains silicones (be cautious if you are avoiding them), and when applied becomes a thick paste that spreads easily on the skin. It's really moisturizing, and if you have oily skin it may take a while to absorb. I usually take a pea-size portion and with that I have enough for the contour of my eyes, upper eyelids and even for the lines that are marked between my eyebrows. I've also tried it in dry areas of my body such as arms or legs and it's absorbed much faster. I use it as the only cream for this area without applying cream or sleeping pack after, since I feel that I don't need any more moisture. Once absorbed, it leaves the skin soft, plump and firm.

As much as I tried, I couldn't perceive any smell from this cream. And if I remember correctly, this is a sign that Isntree keep their pact of "products without artificial flavors", so it can be a good option if you are looking for products without fragrance.

Some extra practical uses that Isntree suggests for this cream are:

I've tried it as a face cream and it's really moisturizing, maybe it can be a little heavy for oily skin. At least in my skin it takes time to absorb, even when I apply a small amount. This is why I would recommend its use as a facial cream on dry or normal skin. In the same way, I've tried it in common areas of wrinkles development and my cheeks still don't absorb it, but there is no problem when applying it on the brow or in the area where the famous "crow's feet" are formed, because it's well absorbed without leaving oily patches.

Like most Isntree products, its expiration date is quite short once the product is opened (6 months after opening).

Respecto a si cumple lo que Isntree promete, debo decir que hace un excelente trabajo. Hay que recordar que, como ocurre con todos los cosméticos, su eficacia muchas veces dependerá de factores externos como las horas de sueño, la alimentación, el uso de protector solar, entre otros. Pero los efectos de esta crema se mantienen constantes en todo momento. Durante finales de Mayo y todo Junio, estuve sometida a un estrés crónico donde mi rutina se vio afectada, pues tuve que reducirla a productos básicos (limpiador, tónico, hidratante y protector solar) e incluí esta crema durante las mañanas y las noches. Y lo cierto es que pude ver mejoras progresivas con el uso constante, pese a que dormía poco y no comía adecuadamente (con esto no incentivo a ser irregular o a ser indisciplinad@, sólo lo comento porque en verdad pude notar los resultados pese a esto). Ahora que puedo dedicarle más atención y comparar el antes y el después, en verdad les digo que si llevan una rutina saludable, verán mejores resultados. En verdad todos los ingredientes trabajan en sinergia para dar resultados buenos y duraderos.

Remoción de arrugas: No podría decir que las elimina totalmente, pero sí suaviza su apariencia y se notan mucho menos. Aún cuando olvido poner la crema, las líneas finas bajo mis párpados no se marcan. En el contorno de los ojos donde se forman las temidas "patas de gallo", pude observar que mi piel lucía más suave y firme. Y aunque aún no desarrollo arrugas prominentes, el hecho de que la piel luzca nutrida, suave y lisa es un extra que aprecio demasiado.

Función blanqueadora en zonas oscuras: Esto pude apreciarlo especialmente en mis ojeras, que es una situación que siempre me ha dado problemas. El tono de esa zona luce menos oscuro y luce más iluminado, recuerdo que incluso mi marido me dijo que mis ojos lucían menos cansados. Como les mencioné, también la ocupé para humectar mis párpados superiores, y aunque no vi que iluminara tan efectivamente como con las ojeras, sí vi que el tono se volvió más uniforme. En este punto, les recomendaría respetar sus horas de sueño para que puedan ver mejores efectos en el color de su piel. 

Nutrición a ojos cansados: La primera crema de contorno de ojos que utilicé se absorbía rápidamente, pero sentía que no le aportaba humectación a mi piel y que al contrario, la resecaba. Pese a que la piel de mi rostro es grasa, esa región en particular siempre se siente reseca y tengo que hidratar y humectar lo mejor posible para que no luzca demacrada y salten todos esos detalles a la vista. Usando esta crema, la piel se siente rellena y con una aplicación basta para aportar nutrientes necesarios y mejorar su aspecto. 

Elasticidad y Fortalecimiento de barrera protectora de la piel: Esto también lo noté incluso cuando estuve bajo estrés. Como ya les mencioné, mi piel es seca en esta región, por lo que siempre se siente frágil. Tirando suavemente, se sentía demasiado débil y me preocupaba desarrollar algún otro problema. Después de meses de uso, cuando realizo nuevamente la prueba tirando la piel suavemente, siento que regresa a su lugar con mayor tensión y no se siente flácida ni frágil.

Regarding if it fulfills what Isntree promises, I must say that it does an excellent job. It must be remembered that, as with all cosmetics, their effectiveness will often depend on external factors such as hours of sleep, food, the use of sunscreen, among others. But the effects of this cream remain constant at all times. During the end of May and all June, I was under a chronic stress where my routine was affected, because I had to reduce it to basic products (cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen) and I included this cream during the mornings and nights. And the truth is that I could see progressive improvements with constant use, although I slept too little and didn't eat properly (with this I don't encourage being irregular or being undisciplined, I just mention it because I could actually notice the results despite this) . Now that I can give more attention and compare the before and after photos, I really tell you that if you have a healthy routine, you'll see better results. In truth all the ingredients work in synergy to give good and lasting results. 

Wrinkle removing: I can't say that it eliminates them completely, but it softens their appearance and they notice much less. Even when I forget to put the cream, the fine lines under my eyelids are not marked. In the outline of the eyes where the dreaded "crow's feet" are formed, I could see that my skin looked softer and firmer. And although I still don't develop prominent wrinkles, the fact that the skin looks nourished, soft and smooth is a plus that I appreciate too much. 

Whitening function in dark areas: I could appreciate this specially in my dark circles, which is a situation that has always gave me problems. The tone of that area looks less dark and brighter, I remember that even my husband told me that my eyes looked less tired. As I mentioned, I also used it to moisturize my upper eyelids, and although I didn't see it brightening as effectively with dark circles, I saw that the tone was more regular. At this point, I would recommend you respect your sleeping hours so you can see better effects on the color of your skin.  

Nutrition to tired eyes: The first eye cream that I tested was absorbed quickly, but I felt that it didn't add moisture to my skin and, in a bad plot twist, it was drying it out. Although the skin of my face is oily, that particular region always feels dry and I have to hydrate and moisturize as best as possible so it doesn't look too bad and all those details could see at naked eye. Using this cream, the skin feels plump and one application is enough to provide necessary nutrients and improve its appearance.

Elasticity and Strengthening of skin barrier: I noticed this even when I was under stress. As I mentioned, my skin is dry in this region, so it always feels fragile. Pulling it gently, it felt too weak and I was worried about developing some other problem. After months of use, when I performed again the test pulling the skin gently, I feel that it returns to its place with greater tension and doesn't feel flaccid or fragile.

Debo agregar que hasta hoy, aún me queda un poco de producto. Y siento que pudo haberme durado incluso los 6 meses, pero por las pruebas que realicé en mi rostro completo y algunas partes de mi cuerpo gasté más de lo pensado. Pero rinde bastante y el empaque ayuda a no desperdiciar crema; quizás pueda parecer que tiene un precio elevado por poca cantidad de producto, pero de verdad les digo que vale muchísimo la pena cada centavo. Recomendadísima.

I must add that until today, I still have some product left. And I feel that I could've lasted even 6 months, but because of the tests I did on my whole face and some parts of my body I spent more than I thought.
